Scripture: Daniel 6:16-23
The sixth chapter of Daniel finds him in the lions’ den, where he has been sent to be devoured by lions, because he continued to disobey the king’s order and prayed to God. An angel sent by God closed the mouths of the lions, sparing Daniel. King Darius not only became a believer, but also sent a decree to the entire kingdom stating that everyone must fear and reverence Daniel’s God, the living God who endures forever.
In a study I participated in at Yates several years ago, I learned that in an emergency such as Daniel’s, one can react in three ways: panicking and possibly doing the wrong thing, becoming paralyzed and doing nothing, or praying, which is doing the powerful thing. In today’s world each of us often experiences some version of an emergency. The birth of Jesus gives us assurance of a Savior who hears our prayers, guides us through this life on earth, and, by His death on the cross, gives us the promise of a beautiful, emergency-free, everlasting life.
Let us be like Daniel when he faced those lions. Let us pray. Let us remember Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Gayle Davis and her family began attending Yates in 1986 after their twin sons, Evan and Stuart, were in Mrs. Miller’s CDC class when they were 3 years old.
