Scripture: Luke 2:6-21

As I waited for the birth of my first son, anticipation of his birth grew as the estimated date of delivery (EDD) drew near and increased with each passing day beyond that date. Eighteen days after the EDD, the wait was over by an emergency cesarean section and my long-awaited baby was finally placed in my arms. We couldn’t wait to share our good news with family and friends.

I think of the wait I had with my first pregnancy, and then think of Mary. Mary, who was told by an angel, had found favor with God. She would become pregnant and give birth to a son. The angel told her who he would be and what he would be named. Mary had to wait to see her story unfold. Mary finally delivered Jesus, a new branch from the stump of Jesse.

The wait was finally over! Oh, what a glorious announcement was made by the angels proclaiming the birth! And who heard about the birth from the angels and came to visit? Shepherds! Shepherds like you and me. Not the media or the news reporters, but people like us. The shepherds visited the newborn King and told everyone about what they had seen and heard.

Today, as you celebrate the birth of Jesus, who will you tell of the good news? Who will you tell tomorrow? We each have a story to tell. Go out and tell your story of how baby Jesus changed your life!

Merry Christmas!
