Waiting for…Salvation
Mark 11:1-11 and Psalm 118:25-26

Today is Palm Sunday, a pivotal moment in Jesus’ life and ministry as he approaches Jerusalem for the final time. Jesus’ entry is energized by the people’s religious hopes. Every step reflects the words of prophets and the Psalms’ celebration of the Messiah. Each detail fills ancient promises with new meaning. We know there is much the people do not – and cannot – yet understand about how God would win the world back from captivity to sin. But that understanding only comes by following Jesus all the way to his cross. That day is not today.
Today, as you consider this scene, maybe you can also recognize your own need for for salvation. In your corner of the world, maybe you yearn for rescue from distress. As you pray, reflect on the places in your life where you yearn for deliverance from trials or challenges. Offer your own words of welcome to Jesus, who brings healing and hope to your life.
If that deliverance has not yet come to pass for you, anchor yourself in the assurance of God’s faithfulness to God’s word and promises. Remember what the Apostle Paul told the Christians of Corinth: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are all ‘Yes’ in Christ!” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
Lent, and especially Holy Week, is a time to learn to trust and wait as the shadows lengthen and enthusiasm fades. Salvation will come just as promised in the perfect timing of God’s grace. Wait patiently for the salvation that Jesus brings and trust in his power to bring redemption and healing to you.
