Scripture: Luke 2:1-7

Over the Christmas break from college in 1972, I had the privilege of working at one of the cash registers at the front of the Roses 5 & 10 Cent Store. I worked evenings from 4 to 9 p.m. and was usually quite busy. It was very interesting to watch the different shoppers as they frantically tried to buy the right gifts for their loved ones with just a few days to go – running here and there through the store.

One evening, I was very delightfully surprised to hear a young child proudly exclaim: “There’s Baby Jesus in the window!!”

A boy of seven or eight had a look of pure joy on his young face.  It gave me much joy to see that he was more enamored with this than he was with the toys that were also on display.

Oddly enough at the base of the sign it said, “satisfaction guaranteed!”  How appropriate, I thought. It was to the message of true Joy that the message of Christ’s birth brings. May we all seek this childlike wonder during this season which can become too busy.
