The purpose of the Music Ministry of Yates Baptist Church is embodied in those two words – music and ministry. Music touches us in ways nothing else can, and music that takes inspiration from God reaches even deeper. Our “music ministry” desires to be just that:
music that ministers and music that, in whatever form or style, directs our thoughts and hearts to praise our Creator as we worship Him;
music that convicts us all of the sin in our lives and directs us to the saving grace of Jesus Christ;
music that draws the wayward soul back to His loving arms of mercy;
music that soothes our aching hearts when all seems lost;
music that inspires us to great ventures for God;
music that brings joy to the presenter as well as the listener;
music that edifies the believer;
music that binds us all together as the Body of Christ.
This philosophy is why we call everyone involved in the Music Ministry of Yates a “minister of music.” Each Sunday, in our worship, you are a part of this exciting ministry that uses music as its medium of expression!
Music Ministry Opportunities
Wednesdays, 6:00 pm, September–May, Education Building Second Floor.
Preschool Choir (Age4-Kindergarten)
Music Makers (Grade1-2)
Young Musicians (Grades3-5)
For students grades 6-12. Rehearsals in the Choir Suite at 4:15 pm on Sundays September–May.
The Sanctuary Choir (ages 16 & up) is open to all who possess a desire to praise and worship God, draw others closer to God, share the gospel of Jesus Christ, be drawn closer to God themselves and enjoy the fellowship of other believers through the medium of vocal music. The Sanctuary Choir leads in worship each Sunday and they present special programs (musicals, Broadway-style musicals, dinner theaters, etc.) throughout the year. The Choir sings many styles of music from classical to contemporary. Rehearsals Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the choir suite. No audition is required.
This instrumental group (keyboards, guitar, percussion, brass, and woodwinds) provides contemporary music for worship services and accompaniment for ensembles. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings & Sunday mornings.
Members (ages 18 & up) are selected by the director and must have music reading ability and good rhythmic awareness. The choir plays for worship and presents concerts in the community. One of the favorite outings is playing for the patients at Duke Medical Center or UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. The group rings the bells from gurneys that are rolled around from place to place in the hospital. This bell choir meets on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in the choir suite.
