Music Ministry

The purpose of the Music Ministry of Yates Baptist Church is embodied in those two words – music and ministry. If we may be so bold, in terms of what God desires in any “function” of the Body of Christ, music without ministry is void and without meaning. Ministry should be what drives music in the Body of Christ, its philosophy, its methodology.

We all can attest to the power and complexity of music as it affects us each day. From theme songs to commercial jingles to songs that help us relive moments in our lives, music in its many forms cannot be ignored. Music touches us in ways nothing else can and music that takes birth and inspiration from God reaches even deeper.

A quote from an unknown author reads, “For the common things of everyday, God gave man speech in a common way. For the deeper things men think and feel He gave the poets words to reveal. But for heights and depths no word could reach, He gave music, the soul’s own speech.” Another writes, “Music can touch the deepest part of our souls. When we hunger for God, music can lead us into worship. When we try to hide from Him, music can melt the walls we have built up around us.”

Here at Yates the “music ministry” desires to be just that … music that ministers, music that, in whatever form or style, directs our thoughts and hearts to praise our Creator as we worship Him. Music that convicts us all of the sin in our lives and directs us to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, music that draws the wayward soul back to His loving arms of mercy. Music that soothes our aching hears when all seems lost, music that inspires us to great ventures for God, music that brings joy to the presenter as well as the listener, music that edifies the believer, music that binds us all together as the Body of Christ.

If you are looking for a place where you can use the musical gifts and abilities God has given you, however great or small, in ministry to the glory of God, then the Music Ministry at Yates is the place.

It is because of this philosophy that we call everyone involved in the Music Ministry of Yates a “minister of music.” Won’t you become a part of this exciting ministry that uses music as its medium of expression!
