Our dear Yates family,
It is with a myriad of mixed emotions that I and Mary Martha announce our retirement as Minister of Music and Worship and Music Ministry Accompanist of Yates Baptist Church, Durham, NC. Our last Sunday at Yates will be Sunday, May 6, 2018.
This is a true story. A year or so before we moved to Durham, Mary Martha and I were traveling to see some seminary friends who lived near Norfolk, Virginia. We stopped at the Shoney’s at the intersection of N. Roxboro St. and Avondale Drive. Long-timers of Durham will remember the Shoney’s located there. Upon returning to our car after eating lunch, I said to Mary Martha, “I wonder what it would be like to live in Durham?” And as they say, “the rest is history.” Little did we know that God would call us to minister with one of the most wonderful body of believers in God’s Kingdom here on earth for more than 35 years.
We have been planning toward this time for at least 5 years and have been solidifying details the last 3 years. While we will undoubtedly miss the people and ministry at Yates, we feel that the time is right and we are following what God would have us do. In addition to the loving and gracious people of Yates, it has been our privilege and blessing to have ministered alongside some of the most wonderful vocational ministers we know. There are no words that can express our thanks and the feelings we have for all of you. We consider Durham our home and it will continue to be our home. We will be joining you all in prayer as we make this transition together. We feel God still has great things in store for all of us.
With all our love,
Ted & Mary Martha
